Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Officers then found numerous other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say initial examinations suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in relation with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to solve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking political figure said the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
