An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two children both between nine and ten.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person became sick at the location in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Treat game'
Mary Prior KC, presenting evidence, outlined the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer program which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had previously become sick the following morning.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had concerns in July 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the man's possessions."
The legal counsel stated objects including lubricant, Vaseline and syringes were found, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his suspicions.
She stated the defendant went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six youngsters that time - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.
"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she added.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative said the children were struggling to walk due to their condition, so the stepson called the authorities once more.
She explained Ruben then played the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
